Common stackable washer and dryer problems
A stacked unit is two machines sharing one small footprint, so a problem on either side takes your whole laundry setup offline. These are the complaints we hear most and what tends to cause them.
Washer won't drain or spin
The lower washer usually has a compact drain pump that clogs with small items just like a full-size one. On one-piece laundry centers, a worn belt or a failed lid switch is also common. Water left in the tub stops the spin cycle on almost every model.
Water on the floor
Leaks on stacked units often come from a fill hose fitting, a drain hose that slipped out of the standpipe, or a front-load door boot. Because the machines sit in a closet, a slow leak can go unnoticed until flooring or baseboards swell.
Dryer runs but stays cold
The upper dryer fails the same way any dryer does: a heating element or thermal fuse on electric models, an igniter or gas valve coils on gas models. Getting to those parts in a stack is the hard part, not the diagnosis.
Clothes take forever to dry
Small closets usually mean short, tight vent connections with sharp bends. A transition hose crushed when the unit was pushed back is one of the most frequent causes we find.
Shaking and walking during spin
Heavy vibration in a stack is more than noise, because it can loosen the stacking kit holding the dryer in place. Worn shocks or suspension springs, a leveling leg that has backed out, or an overloaded drum are the usual culprits.
Controls dead on one side
Laundry centers often share one control panel and power cord between washer and dryer, so a single wiring or board fault can affect both. Stacked pairs have separate controls, which helps narrow things down.

What you can safely check before you call
Before anything else, unplug the unit. If the dryer is gas, close the gas valve behind it before you shift the stack at all.
- Breaker and outlet: Make sure nothing has tripped. Many laundry centers draw power from a single 240-volt outlet.
- Lint screen: Clear it, and check the screen slot for buildup.
- Washer faucets: Confirm the hot and cold valves are open.
- Load size: Compact washers handle smaller loads. Overfilling is a common reason for spin errors and shaking.
Don't try to lift a dryer off the washer by yourself. Stacked units are top-heavy and can tip in a narrow closet. If you smell gas, leave and call your gas company from outside.
Repairs in tight closets, condos and apartments
Across Las Vegas, most stackables live in hallway closets, condo utility nooks and apartment alcoves with just a few inches to spare. We bring floor protection and plan the pull-out before we start, so the unit, the door frame and the flooring come through intact.
Many repairs can be done in place by removing the front or top panels. When the job means separating the dryer from the washer, we handle it carefully and reinstall the stacking kit snugly when we're done.

We diagnose both halves if needed, test the failed part and show you what we found. You get a quote before any work begins, and nothing happens until you approve. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you the timeline before you approve.

Afterward, we run both machines and check for leaks and airflow. The repair is covered by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor, and your itemized invoice comes by email for online card payment.
Laundry centers and stacked pairs we repair
There are two kinds of stackables. A one-piece laundry center has a top-load washer below and a dryer above in one cabinet, made by brands like Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Frigidaire and Electrolux. A stacked pair is two separate front-load machines joined by a stacking kit, common from LG, Samsung, Bosch, Miele, Whirlpool and Speed Queen.
We work on both, gas or electric, full-size or compact. Repairs on the washer side follow the same approach as our washer repair service, and the dryer side is covered by dryer repair.

Venting a stacked dryer in a Las Vegas condo or closet
A dryer sitting on top of a washer is hard to see behind, and in many condos and multistory buildings the vent runs a long way through walls or ceilings before it reaches the outside. Lint and desert dust collect in those runs, and the dryer slowly loses airflow.
