Common washer problems we fix

Most washer breakdowns trace back to a short list of parts. These are the symptoms we hear about most, on both top-load and front-load machines, and what usually sits behind them.

Leaking onto the floor

On front-loaders, a torn door boot or a drain filter that wasn't closed tightly is a frequent cause. Top-loaders tend to leak from a loose hose clamp, a cracked tub or a pump seal that has started to weep. Water that shows up only during the drain cycle usually points to the pump or its hoses.

Not draining

Standing water at the end of a cycle usually means the drain pump is blocked or burned out. Socks, coins, hair ties and bra wires are what we usually find in the pump housing. A kinked hose or a clogged standpipe can look exactly the same, so we check the whole drain path.

Won't spin

Most washers refuse to spin with water in the tub, so a spin complaint is often really a drain problem. Beyond that, the usual suspects are a worn belt, a failed motor coupling on some top-loaders, a bad shifter or a motor control fault.

Lid or door won't lock

Modern washers won't fill or spin until the lid lock or door lock reports that it's closed. A broken latch, a failed lock switch or a damaged wire in the harness will stop the cycle and often throw an error code.

Dead controls or won't start

If the display is blank or the buttons do nothing, we start with power at the outlet, then move to the door lock, the user interface and the main control board. Boards do fail, but we confirm it with testing first, because they're one of the pricier parts.

Banging, grinding or roaring in spin

A roar that gets louder as the drum speeds up is the classic sign of worn tub bearings, especially on front-loaders. Banging can come from worn suspension rods or shocks, or simply a lopsided load.

Musty or sour smell

Front-loaders trap moisture around the door gasket and in the drain filter, and extra detergent feeds the odor. Sometimes the smell comes from a slow drain leaving water in the sump.

What you can safely check before you call

A few quick checks can save you a visit, or at least help narrow things down. Unplug the washer before you reach behind or under it.

  • Power: Make sure the plug is seated and check the breaker. A tripped GFCI outlet in a garage or laundry room is easy to miss.
  • Water supply: Confirm both faucets behind the washer are fully open and the fill hoses aren't kinked.
  • Drain filter (front-load): Many front-loaders have a small access door at the bottom front. Lay down towels and a shallow pan first, because a full tub can release more water than you expect.
  • Drain hose: Look for a kink where the machine was pushed back against the wall.
  • Load size: Run a smaller, evenly spread load to rule out an unbalanced cycle.

Please don't tape down or bypass a lid switch or door lock to force a spin. Those switches keep hands away from a drum that turns at high speed. If none of this solves it, call us and tell us what you found.

What happens on the visit

We start by asking what the washer is doing and when it started, then run a test cycle to watch the problem happen. From there we test the parts involved instead of guessing, and we explain what failed in plain terms.

Before any work begins, you get a quote, and you decide whether to go ahead. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you the timeline before you approve. After the repair, we run the washer through fill, agitate, drain and spin, and check underneath for leaks.

Your itemized invoice arrives by email, and you can pay it online by card. Every repair carries a 90-day warranty covering parts and labor, so if the same problem comes back in that window, we come back and make it right.

What washer repair costs

The only fixed price we publish is the diagnostic: $75 Diagnostic — Waived With Repair. The $75 diagnostic fee is waived when you approve the repair. If you decide not to fix the washer, the $75 covers the visit and the diagnosis.

The repair price itself depends on a few things:

  • The part: A drain pump or lid switch costs far less than a control board or a bearing job.
  • Labor and access: Front-load bearings can mean taking the tub apart, while a pump swap is usually quick. A washer wedged into a tight closet takes longer to reach.
  • The model: Parts pricing and availability vary by brand and age.

If a repair doesn't make sense on an older machine, we'll say so before you spend money on it.

Brands and types we repair

We work on top-load washers with agitators or impeller plates, front-load washers and compact units. Brands we see often include Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, LG, Samsung, Kenmore, Electrolux, Speed Queen, Bosch and Miele, and the full brand list is shown elsewhere on this page.

If your washer sits under a dryer in a closet, see our stackable washer and dryer repair page. When the dryer is the one acting up, our dryer repair service covers gas and electric models. Landlords and laundromat owners with coin-op machines can start with commercial washer and dryer repair.

Hard water and washers in Las Vegas

Las Vegas water is very hard, and washers feel it. Mineral scale builds up on the inlet valve screens, which slows filling and can set off fill errors. It also coats the tub and agitator, where it mixes with detergent into a gray film that holds odor.

A lot of homes here also keep the laundry in the garage, where summer heat is rough on rubber hoses and seals. Checking the fill hoses for bulges or cracks once a year is a good habit. If you'd like a second set of eyes on it, our Las Vegas appliance repair team can look them over during any repair visit.

Frequently asked questions

How much does washer repair cost in Las Vegas?

It depends on the part, the labor involved and your model, so we quote each repair after diagnosing it. The diagnostic is $75, and the $75 diagnostic fee is waived when you approve the repair. You see the price before any work starts.

How soon can you come out?

Most visits are booked within 1–2 business days. Call (702) 763-5110 or use the form on this page and we'll set up a time that works for you.

What washer brands do you repair?

We repair most major residential brands, including Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, LG, Samsung, Kenmore, Electrolux, Speed Queen, Bosch and Miele. That covers top-load, front-load and compact washers.

Is the repair under warranty?

Yes. Every repair comes with a 90-day warranty that covers both parts and labor. If the same issue returns within 90 days, call us and we'll come back.

What areas do you serve?

We cover the Las Vegas Valley, including Las Vegas, Downtown, Summerlin, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Enterprise, Whitney, Winchester and Boulder City.

Why does my front-load washer smell?

Front-loaders hold moisture around the door gasket and in the drain filter, and leftover detergent gives mildew something to feed on. Leaving the door open between loads and using the right amount of HE detergent helps. If the smell stays, a slow drain may be leaving water in the machine.

Is it worth fixing an older washer?

Often, yes, especially when the problem is a pump, belt, lid switch or valve. If the repair would cost close to a new machine, we'll tell you plainly before you approve anything.
