Common dishwasher problems we fix

Most dishwasher calls come down to water that won't leave, water that ends up on the floor, or dishes that come out no cleaner than they went in. Here is what usually sits behind each symptom.

Standing water in the bottom

A puddle left in the tub after a cycle usually points to a clogged filter, a kinked or packed drain hose, or a drain pump that hums but no longer moves water. A blocked air gap or a clogged disposal inlet can cause the same thing, because the dishwasher drains through both.

Water coming out of the air gap

That small chrome cap next to the faucet is the air gap. When water sprays or bubbles out of it, the line between the air gap and the disposal or sink drain is restricted. The usual culprits are food packed inside the air gap itself, a clogged hose, or a newly installed disposal whose knockout plug was never removed.

Leaking onto the floor

Leaks tend to come from a worn door gasket, a cracked tub or sump, a loose hose clamp, or a failing inlet valve under the front kick plate. A dishwasher that isn't level can also let water slip past the door seal.

Dishes come out dirty or gritty

We usually find spray arms with blocked holes, a clogged filter, a weak circulation pump, or a water inlet valve that isn't letting enough water in. Gritty residue often means food is being recirculated because the filter is overdue for cleaning.

Dishes stay wet

A failed heating element, a bad high-limit thermostat, or a vent fan that has stopped can leave every load damp. Many newer European-style machines dry by condensation, so some moisture on plastics is normal for those models.

Won't start or stops mid-cycle

Common causes include a door latch switch that no longer closes, a failed control board, a blown thermal fuse, or a touchpad that has stopped responding.

Error codes

Codes differ by brand and model, but they often point to drain, fill, heating or leak-sensor faults. Write the code down before you call so we can narrow things down before the visit.

What you can safely check before you call

A few checks take minutes and sometimes solve the problem outright. Turn the dishwasher off at the breaker or unplug it under the sink before reaching into the tub, and leave the door latch alone rather than trying to defeat it.

  • Pull out and rinse the filter at the bottom of the tub. A packed filter causes more drain and cleaning complaints than anything else.
  • Run the disposal for a few seconds with cold water, since a clogged disposal blocks the dishwasher drain.
  • Lift the cover off the air gap and clear any debris you can see inside it.
  • Check that the spray arms spin freely and that nothing is hanging below the bottom rack.
  • Look under the sink for a kinked drain hose or a damp cabinet floor.

If you smell burning, see scorched wiring, or water is reaching the kick plate area, stop and call. Don't run more cycles hoping it clears up.

What happens on the visit

We start by asking what you've noticed, then run the dishwasher and watch the fill, wash and drain stages. From there we test the parts that match the symptom, whether that's the pump, the inlet valve, the heater or the latch, and check the drain path through the air gap and under the sink.

You get a clear explanation of what failed and a quote before any work begins. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you the timeline before you approve. Once the repair is done, we run a test cycle and check for leaks before we leave.

Every repair carries a 90-day warranty covering parts and labor. You receive an itemized invoice by email and can pay online by card.

Cost and the $75 diagnostic

$75 Diagnostic — Waived With Repair. The $75 diagnostic fee is waived when you approve the repair. If you decide not to go ahead, the diagnostic is the only charge.

The rest of the cost depends on which part failed, how hard it is to reach, and the model. Clearing an air gap or a drain hose is very different from replacing a pump or control board, and some premium brands use pricier parts. If a repair doesn't make sense for the age or condition of your dishwasher, we'll tell you so you can decide with the full picture. That holds for every dishwasher we look at in Las Vegas, from builder-grade models to premium ones.

Brands and types we repair

We work on built-in, under-counter dishwashers from Bosch, Miele, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, Thermador and Maytag, plus drawer-style units from Fisher & Paykel. Panel-ready models that match your cabinetry are part of our regular work as well.

Because the dishwasher and disposal share a drain, we often handle both on one visit. If the disposal is the real source of a backup, our garbage disposal repair page explains what we do there.

Hard water and dishwashers in Las Vegas

The valley's very hard water leaves a white film on glasses and builds scale inside the machine. Over time that scale narrows the holes in the spray arms, coats the heating element, and can make the inlet valve stick or seep.

Using rinse aid, cleaning the filter regularly and running an occasional cleaning cycle all help. When film keeps coming back even with good habits, we check the spray arms, valve and heater for scale before anything else.

Not sure what you need? Our Las Vegas appliance repair team can talk it through when you call.

Frequently asked questions

How much does dishwasher repair cost in Las Vegas?

The $75 diagnostic fee is waived when you approve the repair. The final cost depends on the part, how hard it is to reach and your model, and you get a quote before any work starts.

How soon can you come out?

Most visits are booked within 1–2 business days. Call (702) 763-5110 or use the form on this page to request a time.

Why is water coming out of my air gap?

The drain line past the air gap is blocked, usually by debris in the air gap, a clogged hose, or a new disposal whose knockout plug was never removed. Clearing the air gap cap yourself is safe; if it keeps happening, we can trace the drain path.

Which dishwasher brands do you work on?

We repair Bosch, Miele, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, Thermador, Fisher & Paykel and other major brands, including panel-ready and drawer models.

Is my repair covered by a warranty?

Yes. Repairs carry a 90-day warranty covering both parts and labor.

Is it normal for my dishwasher to leave water in the bottom?

A small amount of water around the sump is normal on many models. Standing water that covers the tub floor after a full cycle is not, and usually means a clogged filter, drain hose or pump.

Do you serve my area?

We serve Las Vegas, Summerlin, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Enterprise, Whitney, Winchester and Boulder City.
